Lincoln American University is one of the few Medical Universities in Guyana which is certified and listed in World Directory of Medical Schools. Students of LAU will have the privilege to practice not just in United States but also in Canada, Australia, and other prominent countries.
The World Directory of Medical Schools has been developed through a partnership between the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER).
WFME is the global organization concerned with education and training of medical doctors. WFME’s mission is to strive for better health care for all mankind; WFME’s primary objective is to enhance the quality of medical education worldwide, with promotion of the highest scientific and ethical standards in medical education
FAIMER seeks to improve the health of communities by improving health professions education. By creating educational opportunities, conducting research, and providing data resources, it serves international communities of educators, researchers, regulators, and policy makers—each a potential change agent for better health care. Through worldwide activities, FAIMER combines its own expertise with that of local experts to create meaningful and sustained improvements in the systems that produce health care providers and deliver health care.
The World Health Organization (WHO), early in its history, recognized the need for a reliable list of all of the world’s medical schools, to document where the world’s doctors were educated. With the support of member states, the first edition of the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools was published in 1953. Successive editions were published until the seventh and final print edition was published in 2000. From 2000-2007, the WHO published the directory electronically, along with updates received after the 2000 print publication.
