Lincoln American University's Student Governing Association (SGA) organized the first Annual Blood Donation Drive on June 10, 2019. Arrangements for the blood donation were made in the University campus, and students, who are currently studying medicine in Guyana at University’s Georgetown campus, were encouraged to come forward for the good cause, participate in the drive and donate blood with the theme of “Give Blood, Give Life.”
The event was inaugurated on the bright Monday morning at 09:00 in the presence of University members, students, and honored guests including:
Before accepting requests for blood donations, proper arrangements were made for the health check-up of the applicants to check the temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure, hemoglobin level, and other health factors to ensure that potential donors fulfill all the pre-requisites of blood donation. After the check-up, only eligible applicants were allowed to go forward with the donation.
The occasion was graced by Dr. Pedro Lewis, Director of National Blood Bank, Guyana, and Lt Col Jessica Hughes, Director, Air Force Blood Program, who applauded the University’s welfare and community initiative to help the people in need.
In the drive, along with students, faculty and staff members also participated and donated blood.
Proper arrangements were made for the donors to lie down and relax for a while immediately after blood donation, followed by a treat with the ample facilities for refreshments. During donor refreshments, all the participants were provided with the healthy food and drinks for a quick recovery.
After donating blood, a sense of satisfaction and happiness could be seen on the faces of donor students and other participants on making their contribution towards the betterment of society.
